Jenzabar Advances its Solution for Management of Non-Traditional Educational Programs
Solution Responds to Market Needs for Flexibility, Compatibility and Accountability

Cambridge, MA — June 8, 2005 Jenzabar, Inc., the pioneer of Total Campus ManagementSM (TCM) for higher education, today announced the latest release of Jenzabar Non-Traditional System (NTS). This solution enables colleges and universities to manage non-traditional educational programs, including: continuing education, professional development programs, certificate programs, and degree completion programs. While traditional administrative and ERP systems generally lack the flexibility to handle the unique attributes of these programs, Jenzabar NTS was designed solely to market, administer and evaluate non-traditional offerings, from one-time one-day courses to a defined multi-course curriculum, on campus or online.

Today, more than 40 percent of U.S. students participate in higher education on a part-time basis. Increasingly, Institutions of Higher Education are offering continuing education courses, certificate and degree-completion programs to meet the needs of a changing student population, providing education on unusual schedules, at an accelerated pace, or on a course-by-course basis. Non-traditional course offerings have become a significant revenue generator for many schools, and have given them a key competitive advantage.

Jenzabar NTS is a full-featured administrative system designed to work with an institution’s existing student information, ERP and financial solutions. With the system’s resource management capabilities, administrators can track all costs associated with an individual section and determine its profitability before the session begins.
Jenzabar NTS also includes “shopping cart” functionality for online registration and payment, cohort group and instructor management, and marketing planning, execution and assessment. The system also incorporates an integration tool kit, support for application platforms and servers such as IBM Websphere®and jBoss, along with built-in reports. The NTS feature set was designed with input from Jenzabar’s Design Partners, clients that have provided feedback to further enhance the usability of the product.

One such client, Central Florida Community College, has more than 15,000 students participating in non-traditional courses and 9,000 students enrolled in degree programs. “As an institution that is heavily invested in non-traditional programs, we needed an effective management tool for these programs. We need to know that a course is at least going to break even before it begins, and traditional systems don’t provide any data on projected profitability,” said Bill Strait, Central Florida Community College’s Chief Information Officer. “With Jenzabar’s solution we can not only project profitability, but it also allows us to manage program accountability in a way that is consistent with our organizational structure. No other vendor addresses these requirements the way Jenzabar does,” he added.

“Jenzabar’s NTS offering broadens the value of our Total Campus Management approach,” said Robert A. Maginn, Chairman and CEO of Jenzabar, Inc. “We have responded to a growing market demand from educational institutions that are servicing the non-traditional student, and our solution gives these institutions the ability to leverage the same operational efficiencies, data mining and online student experience that our ERP and JICS solutions deliver, with the flexibility necessary to manage non-traditional programs.”

Administrators can create a course offering using Jenzabar NTS, post it to a Web site for quick admission registration, email a list of prospective participants, and then begin to receive registrations and tuition payments. The Degree Completion feature pack provides specialized administrative resources to support fixed-curriculum programs. Jenzabar NTS also includes features to help manage the instructors for non-traditional programs, such as defining who is qualified to teach particular courses and selecting instructors for specific courses from a list of possibilities.

Colleges and universities frequently market non-traditional education differently than traditional degree programs. Because many of these approaches are as non-traditional as the programs they promote, assessing the results of non-traditional marketing efforts can be challenging. Jenzabar NTS provides a range of options for marketing planning and assessment—from defining an advertising or direct mail campaign, to tracking the costs of course-specific marketing programs. These utilities help assess which marketing tactics are most effective and which should be discontinued.
