Jenzabar Joins Fight Against
Terrorism With New SEVIS System
Leading Technology Provider for
Colleges and Universities Introduces Software for Tracking and Verifying
International Students
CAMBRIDGE, MA-January 21, 2003-Jenzabar, Inc., a leader in software
solutions for higher education, today announced the release of a
new Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) product.
SEVIS is an Internet-based system supporting the Student and Exchange
Visitor Program (SEVP), a partnership project between the Immigration
and Naturalization Service (INS), the Department of State and the
Department of Education. Jenzabar will be making the new software
available to its customer base of more than 700 colleges and universities.
Continuing its long-term commitment to the higher education industry,
Jenzabar is offering SEVIS functionality to help its customers meet
the rapidly approaching government deadline of January 30, 2003,
for reporting essential information about international students.
Under new legislation, colleges must maintain up-to-date information
on foreign students and exchange visitors in order to ensure that
they arrive in the United States, show up and register at the school
or exchange program, and properly maintain their status during their
stay.
"Complying with SEVIS requirements will help higher education
develop policies that protect United States citizens," said
Bob Maginn, CEO of Jenzabar. "Jenzabar is committed to providing
the technology that our customers will need to comply with the SEVP
requirements. With SEVIS, schools and the government will now have
a means to ensure that international students are using the American
educational system for what it is intended-to receive a world-class
educational experience."
The SEVIS system enables schools and program sponsors to transmit
electronic information and event notifications via the Internet
to the INS and the Department of State for the duration of a student
or exchange visitor's stay in the United States. SEVIS also allows
printing of the appropriate forms and provides reminders, alerts
and basic reporting capabilities.
The Internet-based SEVIS product operates both within Jenzabar
ERP systems and Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution. Jenzabar will
enable its customers to pull SEVIS data from the ERP system where
it is tracked and include it in the SEVIS Batch Interface file layout.
The company will provide new data entry screens for data elements
not included in the current product. Data elements that are already
being tracked by schools can be easily copied into the equivalent
SEVIS column for consolidated reporting. Schools can then generate
reports to list all new or changed records that need to be reported
to SEVIS. Other functionality includes:
- Edit functions to determine which elements have been added or
changed and need to be reported to SEVIS
- Transmit options to post and retrieve records from SEVIS
- Tracking of batch file information sent and received from SEVIS
- Ability to view and print response files received from SEVIS
Availability
Jenzabar began offering new SEVIS functionality to its existing
customers in January, 2003.
